Vale : Tony Schlicht

University Blues mourn the sudden passing of former player and administrator Anthony (Tony) Schlicht.

After completing year 12 at Xavier College and excelling in football and athletics, Tony resided at Newman College before graduating in Law and commerce at Melbourne University and going on to become a prominent Melbourne barrister.

Tony crossed from Blacks to Blues in 1985 and played a total of 75 games for Blues over 5 seasons, mainly at full back for the senior team. Tony was intensely competitive, and his athleticism and vigour were not greatly appreciated by opposition key forwards.

Tony was active off the field as a Blues committee member for several years and club general secretary in 1988. He was club delegate to the VAFA for several seasons and a member of the MUFC Board. Tony was awarded Blues highest honour – the Chris Brown award – for best clubman in 1988.

Tony remained a regular supporter at Blues games for the remainder of his life. He will be sadly missed by a broad spectrum of Uni Blues supporters. Our hearts go out to his wife Katrina and their three children Jemma, David and Sammy.

Tony’s funeral service will be held in the Basilica of Our Lady of Victories, 548 Burke Rd Camberwell on Fri Oct 11 at 1.00 pm
