The VAFA’s 2009 vote count and Presentation Dinner was held on Monday evening. Uni Blues was represented amongst the 400 attendees and while the Woodrow Medal eluded the club this year (it was won last season by Jack Watts) Blues did not leave empty-handed.
Skipper and spring-heeled jack Andrew “Ace” Lowcock was the worthy winner of “Mark of the Year”. Ace and Ben McConnell were also Blues’ highest vote-winners in the senior poll, earning 9 votes each. Next best were Mark Paterson and Jeremy Mugavin, both awarded seven votes by the whistleblowers.
In the Under 19 competition, Tom Fairbarn was a worthy runner up in the league Best & Fairest and Ben McClure’s performances also caught the eye of the men in white. He finished equal third.
Congratulations to all who polled votes, particularly Ace, Ben, Tom and Ben.
